I have been quiet.
There is nothing like launching a book to take it out of you. I had high hopes for Price’s Price, but it was a commercial flop. Almost no one outside Hong Kong, and few in it, were very interested in the book.
But there is more to it than that. I launched Price’s Price at the height of Covid (remember that?). The book was a homage to Hong Kong, the town in which I’d spent my adult life and in which, if you’d asked me a few years ago, I had intended to spend the rest of my life.
But Covid and the government’s response to the 2019 protests took the soul out of the place.
So we moved to London. It was a move to, as much as from, and London is wonderful: it has a rich cultural life, great theatre and performances, a thriving arts scene, and the business I’m involved in seems to have benefited from my presence here, in the same physical place as the people I work with.
Which has left me busy. So too has facing metastatised prostate cancer. Not so good, but the NHS has been brilliant and, although there is no cure, there is the possibility of managing the disease.
All of which has kept me away from my blog.
But I’m back.
